Web Design by the Machin Collectors Club

After first becoming interested in Machins about 1972 I had often thought that an information service such as that now provided by the MCC was needed. However at that time I did not have the time - or money - to set up such a venture but the thought prevailed.

In the Spring of 1995 I put the idea of forming a 'club' to a very good friend of mine, Frank Goldberg, who, after outlining the idea to him, suggested that I 'go for it'. I put a small lineage advert in Gibbons Stamp Monthly and by the end of the year 143 Machin collectors had joined this new service.

The MCC is run on a non-profit basis with consultation with the membership on the direction the club should proceed. The information supplied through our Newsletters is provided by many people including members, leading Machin dealers, the MBPC (Modern British Philatelic Circle), and other publishers including B. Alan Ltd (Connoisseur).

The first Newsletters were created on a word processor obtained through a mail order catalogue and looking back, although the information supplied was what was required, the presentation, let's say, left a lot to be desired! Now with the use of computers and the web I hope you will agree vast improvements have been made.

Since those times we have gone from strength to strength and to date over 1500 members have joined us. The main services offered are as follows:-

*

Monthly Newsletter which includes:-
a) All the latest information on new Singles, Cylinder Blocks, Booklets, Phosphors, Coil Issues, Missing Phosphors, Miscut Books, Warrant Blocks etc.
b) Buy/Sell/Exchange lists in each issue with contact Names and Telephone numbers.
c) Occasional articles by other members on a particular aspect of Machins.

* Twice yearly Fayres at Dunchurch Village Hall, Nr. Rugby, Warwickshire, in April and October for members to meet, buy, sell, exchange and generally have an excellent day out. This is now regarded by many as THE Machin event of the year.
* Bimonthly Postal Auctions for club members only, offering a wide range of material at very favourable reserves.
* The Machin Collectors Club catalogue - The most user-friendly and comprehensive catalogue on the market and very competitively priced.

The reference numbering system for book types and the SA, SP, DB and DP series, perforation types and missing pin positions which are used by the Machin Collectors Club are the copyright of GB DSB SC and are used with the Circle's kind permission.
